The strike by RISD’s custodians, groundskeepers, and movers ended on April 18, 2023. The agreed upon six-year contract increased average annual wages from $16.74 to $19.40 and ensured annual raises.

Although the strike is over, its existence, as well as its overwhelming amount of student support, is an important moment in RISD’s history. In a way, this strike forced every community at RISD to solidify their values, and set an important precedent for the future of the university.
